May 28, 2014 – G.N. Kuhn Engineering, LLC was selected by the City of Grand Island, Nebraska to complete a subsurface investigation and test for possible groundwater impacts originating from the City’s former landfill site. In response to a complaint, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality directed the City to conduct a detailed site assessment of the former Grand Island Disposal Area located near Phillips, Nebraska in southern Hall County. The City leased this property for the purpose of providing solid waste disposal services to its citizens from 1966 to 1984. At its May 27, 2014 City Council meeting, the City voted unanimously to enter into an agreement with GNK to complete the investigation. GNK has partnered with Terracon, Inc (Omaha, NE) and Environmental Priority Services, Inc. (Salina, KS) to provide the following professional environmental services to the City:
– Geoprobe groundwater sampling
– Onsite/Off-site laboratory analytical services
– Continuous soil profile sampling
– Groundwater monitoring well installation
– “No-purge” groundwater sampling
– Groundwater fate and transport modeling
– Data analysis and reporting
